Beside the Bay at 8A Kelburn street Millport, was originally part of a shop in the 1830s, and as such is a Grade 2 listed building. It comprises two rooms and a shower room. It's a compact ground floor apartment with a big heart, and a beautiful sea view out to Kames Bay beach - open the window and you can hear the sea, as it's literally across the road. Fully renovated in 2019, this apartment has quality hard flooring throughout, so no need to worry about muddy or sandy feet.
The building houses another three apartments- one is occupied all year round, the other two are used intermittently as holiday flats, by the same families.
Kames beach itself is a fantastic beach for dogs and humans alike, as it slopes so gently into the sea- ideal for a paddle or swim.
This apartment sleeps two as a couple ( one double bed , sorry no space for a travel cot or additional bed) and has a combined living/kitchen area with a cosy wood burning stove, and seating on a two seater couch.
The bedroom looks out onto the garden, making it a quiet and relaxing space, and has a standard double bed. The only bathroom, with a walk in shower, is accessed from here.
Please note- this is a very compact space. The bedroom has little in the way of storage, so you're best to pack light as if you were staying in a shepherd's hut or a camping pod.
In the kitchen area, there's an oven and two ring hob, and fridge with small freezer compartment . Everything you need to make a simple meal is included- ample pots and dishes( under the oven drawer) and a coffee machine with pods provided.
Guests love to sit at the bench style table with a glass of wine, and enjoy the view, or sample a fish supper from the local chip shop, only a stroll along the main street. Even in winter, you can enjoy the waves crashing onto the beach and seabirds circling overhead. It's a great place to read, or just contemplate life.
We welcome one dog here, and please note the shared garden is not enclosed- however if you cross the road, there's a large grassy area leading down to the beach, which is ideal for dogs. We provide throws for the couch, some dog bowls, and some towels to dry your pup off after a bracing swim.
The apartment is on the main road which runs through the pretty Victorian town of Millport, and as such there will be ferry and local traffic passing . The advantage is that you're only a moment's walk to the bus stop. There's no private parking ,but all on street parking is free, and you can almost always find a space very close to the entrance to the apartment.
The nearest cafe, pub, newsagent shop,( which also sells morning rolls, milk and essential items ), are all a gentle stroll of under ten minutes, and there are quiet and safe routes to the many walking trails over the island, straight from the door.
Please note the apartment has no stairs at all to navigate, but it's not suitable for wheelchairs due to the tight turning space in the hallway and bathroom. It's ideal for those who have limited mobility though, due to it's level access from the street and garden.
Wifi ,Netflix and Amazon Prime are all included, and you'll also find a selection of games and a jigsaw board. A hairdryer, a small selection of toiletries ( so handy if you arrive late and the shop is closed! ) and of course bed linen and towels complete the facilities, to ensure your comfort .
Heating is by electric panel heaters, which are fully controllable by yourselves, to ensure a comfortable temperature. The wood burning stove will be made up for your arrival, ready for you just to light and there's a free initial supply of wood in the log basket. Further supplies can be bought from ourselves or in the local supermarket.
During winter, we are happy to welcome guests for two night stays, during the rest of the year, we have a three night minimum, with arrival on any day you fancy!
