Rose Cottage Details

Rose Cottage at 26B George Street is a cosy two room and shower room apartment. It may well have been home to a retired soldier from the nearby 18th century Garrison building, which housed the  military in an attempt to stamp out the smuggling on the West Coast of Scotland . Although it was almost certainly built as a single storey dwelling, it has had a further apartment added on upstairs , not owned by us.

It nestles behind other buildings, and is not visible from the road- a little hidden gem. It comprises of a compact kitchen/ seating area, and a larger bedroom,  which has a double bed, and a single day bed. This multipurpose  bedroom also houses an additional TV, so that you can use it as a living room too, stretching out of the spacious day bed as a couch, if you're not using it as a bed.

The cottage therefore sleeps three in one room, and we welcome on or two dogs- please let me know if you have more and we can discuss the suitability of Rose Cottage for you.

The bathroom has a walk in quadrant shaped shower, and we provide an " emergency " pack of toiletries- always useful if you arrive late and the shop has closed! Just help yourself to what you need free of charge.

The kitchen has been designed with a small family or couple in mind, and houses an oven, two ring hob, and fridge with small freezer compartment.  It's ideal for preparing a simple meal, with plenty of pots, pans,( in the drawer under the oven) crockery and a slow cooker.

Both rooms have Smart TVs with Netflix, Amazon Prime and of course the all important WiFi. Some toys and games are kept in the wicker ottoman. Bed linen and towels complete the facilities - just let me know when you book if you need bed linen for the day bed, or if you'd prefer it to be left as a couch. The flooring is click vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom, carpet in the bedroom.

As this cottage has it's own small  private garden,(which is one metre high fenced on two sides, walled on a third and hedged with fencing in front on the fourth), it's ideal for one or two dogs. There's also a shared area, and this is shared between two other apartments- another cottage and the upstairs apartment. for our canine guests, we supply some throws for the couch, towels for drying your dog, bowls and some tennis balls. The nearest beach is Newton beach, and this is around five minutes walk from the apartment, along the leafy quiet street.

The cottage feels private and secluded, but please note other buildings surround it and can be seen through the trees and hedge in winter.

It's not suitable for those with poor mobility- there are five old stone steps which lead from path to garden and cottage , then another five to take you from garden to front door.  One inside the cottage though, it's all one one level.

Heating is provided by efficient night storage heaters, plus a small electric stove for a bit of additional heat, or as a quick warm up on a chilly Spring /Autumn evening.

Parking is free on road, and George street is quiet- it's almost always possible to park right opposite the garden gate.

George street itself runs one street behind the main promenade, and Rose Cottage is only a few minutes walk to the nearest newsagent which also sells morning rolls and essential items. Cafes are also very close at hand - the Garrison cafe is around three minutes walk. A pub with a beer garden is two doors down from the cottage.

During high summer season we operate on a four night minimum stay, the rest of the year it's three nights. Arrival can be on any day.
